Neurnberg, Germany
Saturday we took the train to Neurnberg. It was a good trip this time. haha!! We were able to get a family pass at a discount so that was good. We had a nice ride and the kids enjoyed it too.
We arrived at the train station there and it seemed like more of an airport. It has two bookstores, a food court, fresh fruit markets, McDonald's, and other small stores to browse. It was neat.
As we left the train station we were not sure exactly where to go from there. We walked around a little, and then decided to go back to the station and buy a map. We found the pedestrian streets and walked there. It was really a neat area. There were many stores and lots of people.
The town is historical with many sites to see, and we were able to see an old church, St. Lorenza. It was really tall, old and had beautiful windows, architure and a large pipe organ. The kids enjoyed it too.
They have at least three STARBUCKS!!! We had coffee at one of them and it was really good. We found a mall. WHOOO!!! It was nice to have it available. We looked in alot of stores and found Phillip a pair of snow boots. Aubrey got a pair of gloves and an ear warmer. We had alot of fun!
Okay I did forget to mention that as I tried to take a picture I dropped the camera and it really broke. It doesn't work at all. We were so upset. We had only taken one picture of the church.
Overall we still made the best of the trip. We made it home safe and had a nice time.

Activities
On Tuesday Aubrey started gymnastics and really liked it. It was a really good class. She did really good and the teacher was nice. They only have 5 children in the class so that is good. I think she will do really well.
HOORAY HOORAY!!! We had our household goods delivered on Wednesday. We are so glad. We finally have our stuff. It was great to have our own couch, bed, mattress. Ethan thought it was Christmas with all of the packages and stuff we hadn't seen in a while. It was fun to hear him say, "my bat and ball, my car." Later it was "daddy's new coat" and stuff like that. It was fun. Aubrey didn't want to stop for dinner, although Phillip, Ethan and I had not eaten lunch, because she wanted to play with her toys. We did finally make it for dinner. It was a busy day. Oh, Oh our mattress. Phillip and slept so good and didn't wake up at all that first night. I don't know if it is because we were so tired or it felt so good. We have really enjoyed all of our stuff. We did have a few things that are broken. A glass table top, the arm on the rocking chair, and a few other things too. We will be able to file a claim and replace them so I guess that will help.
Thursday we unpacked and unpacked. We did good and didn't have any boxes in the living room, dining room or kitchen left just stuff to put away. We do have a few boxes by the computer I forgot about. The kids have unpacked a few boxes of toys in the playroom. We still have alot to do but are making good progress. Yesterday Phillip finished painting the living room. The paint we had was so thick it was hard to spread, but it looks really nice. It is yellow. I will add pictures soon.

Week of January 5th Happenings!
Well this week Aubrey was able to finally ride the bus to school. We thought it would be Monday but it was Thursday instead. This means that Phillip had to take her school and then Ethan and I had to ride in at lunch and pick her up. It all worked out fine. She really likes riding the bus and has made a few new friends that live near us.
We had our Hail and Farewell this week. We were able to meet some new people. It seems the squadron is large or maybe it is the tranisition. Everyone is very nice here. The ladies I met were helpful and kind. We met at Zur Post a German restaurant that many have said is there favorite. I would have to say it is really good. We took the kids with us and they were good. We enjoyed our time and look forward to going back agian. (We did go back that following Sunday with another family)
On Friday we had our first Squadron Ball. It was really nice once we found it. It was so supposed to take about 1 hour but it took us about 3 hours. We didnt' miss the whole thing. We were able to take pictures, eat hear the commander speak and visit a little bit. It was really nice. It was a welcome home ceremony for the squadron. We had no problem getting home so that was great. It was in a small town it seemed to be in the middle of hils. The place was nice and we had a good time.
Saturday we went to Grafenwoef and had a good time.
Sunday we went to church and had a nice afternoon. We went to eat at Zur Post with another chaplain and his family. We had a really nice time and they are a great family. I look forward to serving with them.

Walking on Frozen ICE!!!
Yesterday, Sunday, we had a really good day. We had a really good worship service. The chaplains really preach and help me apply God's word. It ended with the Lord's supper so that was really a great ending.
On our way home we saw a man at the pond just before you exit post. We checked and he was ice fishing. After a trip to the PX in Grafenwoef to find shoes for a ball on Friday night we did go to the pond too. We put on our snow shoes and coats and headed to the pond. It was so frozen it looked like asphault that Phillip was standing on at first. The kids and I also walked on it. It was almost like we were ice skating. We could slide our feet and stuff it was just so much fun. There is a bridge with a waterfall, and a nature trail as well that we walked a little bit on. We took some pictures and had a blast!!
It snowed more today and there is enough snow for a snowman tomorrow. It is supposed to be in the single digits for weather this week. Today I think 7F and 0F tomorrow. It was really cold today though. Phillip slid a little bit in the car this morning he said on the ice but not much. This is such an adventure for us.

Happy New Year!
Phillip has had short days at work these last weeks so that has been nice.
On New Year's Eve we didn't know if there would be any celebration but oh my how there was. We had already put the kids to bed and heard a few fireworks as midnight got closer. I peeked outside and saw down the street a ways there were a few fireworks. About 10 minutes til we went outside and it was great. You could see great fireworks all over. For about 30 minutes it was almost continuous fireworks. We could see really good. We are about half way up a hill so we could see acroos and over also. To our left a few houses were fireworks, to our right were fireworks and right across the street their were fireworks along with the ones we could see from other streets and far off too. It was so neat I tried to wake Aubrey up but she only wiggled. She didn't wake up she was too asleep. The fireworks didn't bother the kids at all. It was so cool to see all of the fireworks.
Aubrey says she is having a great time in Germany. She really misses all of her family and friends. Yesterday we went to this big castle here in Vilseck. We were able to walk inside the walls of the courtyard and look at just the outside. It was neat to see a real castle.
On our way out for our walk yesterday an older lady stopped and spoke to us. She said she lives up the street across from us. She had seen us before on one of her walks. She was a really nice german lady who spoke really good English. It was nice to meet a german neighbor.
Today we walked downtown to explore. We went to a local church. Aubrey says it was very very pretty. It had a statue of Mary and Jesus on the cross. The building was really interesting to look at. It also had a scene of statues of Jesus praying in the garden when the disciples fell asleep. We went to a pizzeria and grill for lunch here in town. I got this meat called "doner" I am not sure what it is but it tasted like sausage. Aubrey liked it too. Phillip got schniltell(?not sure of the spelling). It was all very good. We learned that french fries in German is "pommes". It is great becasue every time we go out we learn something new.

Aubrey started school and likes her teacher. She is nice and the assistant is good too. They have a listening bucket they use each day so that is helpful. Aubrey seems to have a few friends she plays with too. One of the guys in Phillips Squadron(unit) has a daughter in Aubrey's class so that is neat. His wife has been really nice also especially while we were moving in and stuff. She helped us and even allowed Aubrey to come play one morning before school.
We have a good work car for Phillip so that is very helpful. We bought it from the same guy I spoke about already. It is a 91 BMW. It is older but runs good. It will be really good since we live off post. It was great to have before our truck came in. Our truck came in the Tuesday before Christmas but everything was closed on Christmas Eve for us to get the registration and paperwork done. We went and were able to pick it up on Monday everyone was really nice. It was so nice to be able to ride in it. It doesn't fit in the garage but it is right outside. We use it when we all travel together so that is really nice.
We a really nice Christmas we were able to let the kids play with their things and eat a great lunch. It was great for us to be able to talk with our family and just be together with one another.
The kids are adjusting well and enjoy it all.
We went to Amberg a larger city about 20 minutes away last weekend. Well we used our GPS which really helped but we passed the exit and couldn't turn around. When our GPS told us to turn around "left then left". We couldn't turn the second left because their was a guard rail. We ended up on the AUTOBAN which was fun. We went about 80 mph or so and finally found our way through small towns back to Amberg. They have McDonald's so we went there for lunch. It was neat they even had McRib. We went to a store called Reall sort of like Wal-Mart but more like a large department store with groceries too. We bought a Christmas item that has candles and a fan at the top that turns with the heat from the candles. It has a small nativity at the bottom. it is very pretty and we really have enjoyed it. We looked around at a couple of garden and stuff stores. It was nice to be in a different area too.

INTERNET FINALLY! Our First week in our HOME!
Oh my how it seems like it has been so long since we have had internet. It is our way of communication to many of you. We just got internet today and home phone service too. We can call internationally for a flat rate each month included in the monthly service.
We moved into our house on Wednesday, Dec. 16th I think. It was nice on Thursday our unaccompanied baggage arrived. They unloaded and unpacked the boxes in about an hour. It was nice that by 11:00AM I had already put away alot of the things. We decided to make one room the play room for the kids of course not all of the toys are here but it is nice to have them in one spot.
We had a nice weekend being able to cook and have space to move in our home. It is nice.
Our first evening that Wednesday we were able to walk down the hill to the german grocery store. It is neat to see things different from what I am used to but also it is all in german. Well we can't read it yet so we go by pictures. We got milk and yogurt. We pay in only Euros but it is neat to use the few words we know at the store. "Please", "bittershun" and "thank you", "dunkashun" or "danke".
Saturday we walked downtown. It is a neat small town. Most things were closed, but we had a nice walk. We were able to just look and do some window shopping. Most things close at noon on Saturday. We walk through old towers as the pedestrian walkways. It is not far to downtown and we are able to enjoy the architure on the old buildings and cobblestone streets.
Sunday evening we walked the oppossite way from Saturday and found this nice German restaurant with really friendly people. Most of the restaurants here are family owned and they live next to it or in the back or upstairs. The lady was really helpful. We were the only ones in the restaurant and she even turned the TV to German cartoons. It was nice. We will go back.
